SUMMARY

The Bangladesh Project Specialist (PS) will support the Country Project Manager and assist in the management, coordination, and oversight of in-country program activities in Bangladesh. The objective of USIP's Bangladesh program is to support efforts to better understand the nature and causes of conflict in Bangladesh through research and analysis, to use this learning to inform policymaking, and to implement programs aimed at preventing, mitigating and/or resolving violent conflict.

The Project Specialist will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and will report to the Country Project Manager for the RESOLVE Network based in Dhaka. USIP serves as the Secretariat for the RESOLVE Network, a global consortium of research organizations and individual researchers focused on generating insights into violent extremism around the world. The RESOLVE Network is part of USIP's Center for Applied Conflict Transformation.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Coordination and Administrative Support

  • Provide effective administrative and logistical support and coordination for USIP projects in Bangladesh.

  • Regularly travel to the field to monitor and evaluate the progress of USIP grantees in Bangladesh to help improve project implementation based on lessons from the field.

  • Facilitate and support communications and logistics for senior advisors on Bangladesh-based projects,

  • Consolidate results that emerge from projects funded by USIP and share these with USIP staff in Dhaka and in Washington, DC and other key stakeholders.

  • Develop documentation on program successes, best practices, and lessons learned from interventions for internal use by the RESOLVE Network team.

  • Work with USIP grantees and other partners to understand and comply with USIP grants and contractual policies and procedures including but not limited to monitoring of budgets, deliverables and key program activities.

  • Assist in the capacity building of USIP partners and grantees.

Partnership Development

  • Build relationships on behalf of the RESOLVE Network and USIP with a variety of stakeholders throughout Bangladesh, most importantly civil society actors.

  • Track the development of relationships and regularly update the RESOLVE Network team with meeting summaries, contact information, and follow-up on meeting action items.

  • Identify opportunities for programming and partnership with a variety of actors in line with the RESOLVE Network's strategic plan for Bangladesh.

Communication and Coordination

  • Organize roundtables to showcase findings from RESOLVE Network programs and research.

  • Assist in planning and supporting travel of Washington-based staff and advisors in the region, as well as making appointments and attending meetings.

  • Preparation of and distribution of timely reports to USIP- the RESOLVE Network-Washington.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be considered for the position, the candidate must be a Bangladeshi national and meet the selection criteria listed below. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how prior experience and/or training address the following:

  • A four years bachelor's degree or a master's degree in the social sciences, international development, international relations/conflict management; or a directly relevant field. Master's degree is highly preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in Bangladesh in at least two of the following areas: contract/grant management, social enterprise, community development and mobilization, conflict resolution, democracy and governance, law, journalism, and/or human rights activities.

  • Knowledge and experience of grants management is essential; experience working with research institutes and centers and first time recipients of foreign funds is preferred.

  • Experience of monitoring and evaluation; development of M&E tools and result tracking.

  • Demonstrated ability to monitor budgets and track expenditures.

  • Ability to operate with high levels of autonomy and responsibility. Attention to detail and ability to organize, store and relay information effectively.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deal with counterparts on both the lowest and highest political and social levels;

  • Native level fluency in both written and spoken English and Bengali required. Proficiency in any other regional South Asian language highly desirable.

This position is subject to the availability of funds. Salary is commensurate with experience. The term of the position is 6-9 months with the potential for one-year renewal. Immediate or very near-term availability will be an important factor in candidate selection.
