JOB BRIEF
The Research Assistant will report to the Director, Leadership and Talent Development and provide research and support to the Director, Leadership and Talent Development and the HR Generalist (Diversity and Inclusion).
Compensation Approximate range of $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
Work Schedule: An average of 20 hours per week; up to 40 hours when school is not in session.
Work Location: This position is based at USIP's Washington, D.C., headquarters.
Expected Project Dates: As soon as possible – August 2023
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Conducts research about and assists in the creation of a DEIA program for USIP.
* Conducts research about best practices and industry trends in DEIA and produces summaries for internal decision-making.
* Develops job aids, case studies, and informal/on-the job learning on DEIA.
* Analyses qualitative and quantitative data and provides findings in a format that fosters understanding and supports next steps.
* Provides support for virtual and in-person (when possible) learning events, including setting up virtual meetings, reserving rooms/online platforms, developing invitations, monitoring RSVPs, arranging room/virtual set-up, serving as the primary point-of-contact for attendees, and drafting summaries of conclusions and tracking key decision points.
* Assists the DEIA manager to recognize, create, and implement plans to promote diversity within an organization.
* Assists with the effective functioning of USIP employee resource groups.
* Assists in collection and analysis of employee engagement data.
* Develops appealing and informative promotional materials for DEIA learning events.
* Participates in the planning for multi-year DEIA development and employee engagement activities.
* Monitors ongoing developments in the field of DEIA in international organizations.
* Completes special assignments as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Current B.A, M.A or Ph.D. student studying international relations, conflict resolution, political science, economics, or a related field.
* Master’s degree (in-progress) in DEIA, Human Resources, Leadership, or management strongly preferred.
* Must be a full-time university student.
* Familiarity with contemporary DEIA processes, policies, and methods.
* Familiarity with international NGOs and international development.
* Strong writing, editing, and research skills, including qualitative methods.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills.
* Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Experience living and working overseas, or other cross-cultural communication experience is strongly preferred.
USIP's Research Assistant program is administered through the Consortium of Universities. Any full-time university student are eligible for these openings.
