JOB BRIEF
The Project Specialist, based in Erbil, assists USIP’s program in Iraq that aims to enable the voluntary return of internally displaced communities from Nineweh Plains and Western Nineweh. The incumbent will work with a coalition of national partners and assist in development and planning, and financial management, as described in the following sections. The Project Specialist will provide project management, monitoring and evaluation, and day-to-day project administrative support. The incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Senior Program Officer. This position is for national hires only.
This is a Fixed-Time Term Personal Services Contractor position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the above-mentioned project, reporting to the Senior Program Officer;
- Coordinate project-related meetings, events, etc.;
- Under the direction of the Senior Program Officer, liaise with 5 national partners and support project management, planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation to ensure implementation of project activities in line with established goals, objectives, and partnership agreements;
- Plan project-related travel for Washington-based and local USIP staff in the Middle East and North Africa for the project;
- Research project-related thematic areas, such as stabilization, displacement, and resilience throughout the project, drafting reports as needed by the Senior Program Officer;
- Prepare timely project related reports to USIP-DC and to other entities as appropriate, under the guidance of the Senior Program Officer;
- Provide oversight and support for logistical and administrative matters for the successful implementation of SSR project activities in an efficient manner;
- Ensure effective coordination both internally among various USIP project teams, as well as externally with the US Embassy, other international actors, and all other relevant stakeholders;
- Support the Regional Security Coordinator with local security updates, and maintain a high level of security awareness at all times; and
- Perform other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in peace/conflict, international relations or related field.
- Four or more years (2+ with MA) experience in conflict management, peacebuilding, international development, or business administration.
- Prior experience working with and extensive knowledge of USIP and USAID is required.
- Ability to anticipate program needs and challenges and develop options for addressing those needs and challenges is required.
- Strong English language skills required.
- Fluency in Arabic required. Strong Kurdish language skills a plus.
- Prior experience working in the MENA region a plus.
