Responsibilities:

Review the terms of contracts, grants, memoranda of agreement and pledges to identify donor specific financial and accounting requirements to ensure organization complies with donor restrictions and in conformity with federal regulations (CFR200), US GAAP, industry standards and current laws.

Record and report grants, gifts and endowment income to ensure compliance with GAAP and government requirements in Uniform Grant Guidance and other grant sponsor requirements.

Collaborate with External Relations Department to ensure that all donations are recorded in compliance with donor restrictions. Provide oversight for the appropriate accounting treatment to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting.

Reconcile research and resolve variances between the donor database (Raiser's Edge) and the accounting software system (Serenic Navigator).

Assist with the implementation of the lockbox service used for donations.

Review all gifts received to identify donor restrictions to ensure the accounting treatment is in accordance with US GAAP.

Reconcile and report organization's investment portfolio, including restricted, unrestricted and endowment funds, charitable gift annuity and charitable remainder trust.

Make sure the accounting is in compliance with the corporate investment policy, including the UPMIFA (Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act).

Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations, including grants receivable, deferred revenue and pledges receivable. Ensure the accounting treatment is in compliance with revenue recognition requirements and Uniform Grant Guidance.

Draw funds from Letters-of-Credit (LOC) thru Division of Payment Management at Department of Health and Human Services via website.

Ensure funds drawn are in accordance with the cash needs of the federal funded projects. Prepare reconciliations of Federal grants.

Complete federal filings such as quarterly SF425 financial reports to ensure compliance.

Maintain and monitor the account balances of the customer subledger within the corporate accounting software to ensure that subledger reconciles with the control account (general ledger) on a monthly basis.

Research and test the use of new modules of the Serenic accounting software for a global implementation in 20+ offices.

Ensure the implementation meets the need to report donor specific fund requirements and to meet the local statutory requirements.

Train the field staff on the use of new financial system modules and provide technical support by researching, answering questions and troubleshooting problems.

Assist the preparation and review of the annual financial statements in conformity with Uniform Grant Guidance. Prepare Form 990 Tax Return in compliance with IRS regulations governing tax exempt organizations.

Assist the controller with the preparation of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts Reporting (FBAR) required for the annual BSA E-Filing and ensure compliance with current FBAR Guidance.

Prepare and review government surveys to ensure timely and accurate submissions (i.e. Annual Capital Expenditures Survey, Annual Services Report, BEA Form 40 and Form 125).

Provide support and guidance to the Junior Accountant, including accounting procedure training and journal entries reviewing and posting.

Will supervise 1 Junior Accountant.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent in Accounting or Finance.

Experience:

3 years of experience as a Staff Accountant/Accountant/Sr. Accountant. The 3 years of experience must include the following: Performing accounting and auditing functions for non-profit global organizations that serve donor organizations; Utilizing US GAAP and non-profit accounting standards, to handle and resolve compliance with revenue recognition requirements specifically for grants, contracts, pledges and other donations; Completing reconciliations of complex general ledger accounts as part of the monthly and annual closing process for non-profit organizations using generally accepted accounting principles and procedures (US GAAP); Coordinating and handling audit activities and analyzing accounting data reports for non-profit global organizations that must comply with donor and UGG requirements; Using MS Excel experience to build complex functions and advanced formulas; (including VLookUp, IF, Pivot Table); and System implementation and integration as demonstrated by process improvement such as introducing new system to integrate with current system.

Also, two years of experience with: Independently accomplish investment reporting, including restricted, unrestricted and endowment funds, charitable gift annuity and charitable remainder trusts; and Using Serenic or other major financial systems such as Great Plains, Epicor, Oracle to track awards, conduct fund accounting, produce financial reports and optimize financial analysis.
