JOB BRIEF

The Program Officer supports the Curriculum and Training Design (CTD) Team in the Center for Applied Transformation (ACT) on the professionalization and standardization of education and training programs. Additionally, the Program Officer supports efforts to strengthen the capacity of USIP staff to implement effective education and training programs.

The qualified candidate will have a solid foundation in learning theory; substantial experience developing curricula and guiding/advising others on curriculum development; and a proven track record of developing trainers using participant-centered approaches.

The position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Senior Program Officer, Internal Trainer Development.

TARGET SALARY RANGE

Grade 12 - $86,000 - $89,000

The Institute uses the General Schedule salary tables for administering compensation. Offers of employment are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity and amount budgeted for the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and Planning:

  • Design and deliver trainings for USIP staff (both HQ and in country).
    • Design and deliver trainings on the pedagogy of training.
    • Coach/mentor partners to deliver participant-centered trainings.
  • Contribute to the curriculum development and training design of other CTD programs.
  • Design and develop online courses.
  • Design and deliver facilitation skills trainings and training-of-trainer programs for partners.
  • Support development of a new Curriculum Guidance Group for internal teams seeking input and advice on curriculum and training design.
    • Serve as a resource for the Institute on curriculum design for education and training programs (syllabus/agenda development, learning outcomes, etc.)
    • Develop lessons and manuals for training programs.
    • Contribute to thought leadership around education and conflict transformation, both internally and externally, with existing and new partners.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters or PhD in education, international relations, conflict management or a related field required.
  • Four plus years of experience as an educator and trainer in a field related to peacebuilding, including in contexts outside of the United States, required.
  • Experience developing curricula for training programs.
  • Experience mentoring trainers and developing cadres of trainers.
  • Excellent writing and oral skills.
  • Ability to write concept notes and after-action reports.
  • Strong networking skills and capabilities.
  • Must have proven ability to lead and motivate others, and to work as a team player.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
