JOB BRIEF

The Research Assistant will contribute to the work of USIP’s Grants and Fellowships team, specifically focused on the Women Building Peace Award program, including analysis and research, and general team support in the form of administrative, programmatic, and operational functions.

Work Schedule: An average of 20 hours per week

Expected Project Dates: September 2020 – August 2021 (with the possibility of extension)

Pay: $15.00 - $15.75 per hour

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support to the Grants and Fellowships team of the Center for Policy, Learning, and Strategy (PLS), specifically:

  • Provides overall support to the PLS-based Grant and Fellowships program.
  • Analyzes and contributes to problem solving for the team’s grantmaking and fellowship work.
  • Assists in managing the online Grants and Fellowships management system (FLUXX) by providing technical assistance and ongoing management of system functions, including editing and updating grant and fellowship project summaries for posting online, logging grant product information, and developing ad hoc reporting templates.
  • Reviews, assesses, and summarizes grantee and fellows project reports and related material.
  • Gathers information for the Grants and Fellowships Team with former Grantees, Jennings Randolph Senior Fellows and former and current Peace Scholars to ensure contact lists for all three groups are up to date, the dissertation database is complete, and information for past Senior Fellows is complete.
  • Conducts program-related research and writing as needed.
  • Assists program staff in managing filing systems, mailing lists, and public outreach.
  • Provides programmatic support as needed, including assisting with events and special assignments.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Only full-time students from universities belonging to the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area (CUWMA) can be considered for these openings. A full-time graduate level university student pursuing a master’s degree in international relations, international security, governance, international peace and conflict resolution, or another related subject is preferred.
  • Ability to translate and synthesize complex themes, ideas, or data into compelling and accessible summaries or memos.
  • Strong writing, organizational, and collaborative skills.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel, is required.
  • Competence in computer and database usage, including the FLUXX grants management system and Salesforce, is preferred.

USIP's Research Assistant program is administered through the Consortium of Universities in the Washington Metropolitan area. Any full-time university student in the Washington area is eligible for these openings.

All USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
