JOB BRIEF
The Youth Program Lead will be the manager of ACT’s youth programs, including the Generation Change Fellows Program (GCFP), USIP’s Youth Working Group, and USIP’s participation in the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace, and Security. Additionally, the Youth Program Lead will work with other USIP centers and external partners and funders to enhance USIP’s programming around youth engagement and leadership.
TARGET SALARY RANGE
Grade 12, $83,000 - $86,179
The Institute uses the General Schedule salary tables for administering compensation. Offers of employment are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity and amount budgeted for the position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
USIP YouthProgram:
- Develops and implements the strategic vision for USIP’s Youth Programs, including the Generation Change Fellows program.
- Manages USIP’s Youth Peacebuilding Fund.
- Manages the fundraising process, including drafting concept notes, nurturing relationships with funders, drafting MOU’s and securing funding.
- Provides leadership for USIP’s Youth Working Group.
- Develops, updates, and edits various program documents and website material related to youth, as needed.
- Liaises with USIP’s internal evaluation team (LER) to ensure continuous monitoring and assessment of youth programs and engagements
USIP Youth Thought Leadership:
- Represents the Institute in the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace, and Security and at events focusing on youth.
- Publishes on youth and peacebuilding to enhance USIP’s thought leadership in this area.
- Provides guidance, technical expertise and support to other USIP centers on youth engagement and leadership programming.
- Partners with institutions, communities and networks promoting the goals of UNSCR 2250.
- Facilitates live events related to youth in online courses as well as conversations for youth audiences in the discussion forums for select USIP online courses.
Generation Change Fellows Program– Program Implementation:
The primary special project will be the Generation Change Fellows Program, an international project focused on building connections between and strengthening the leadership and conflict management skills emerging civic leaders.
- Oversees the management of the program (e.g., plans, develops, coordinates and implements the program’s activities).
- Drafts reports and findings documents in regard to GCFP programming.
- Coordinates with key external stakeholders regarding the day-to-day planning and coordination of the program in order to support program goals and objectives pertinent to GCFP.
- Manages the Fellows recruitment and application process, including developing the application, circulating and promoting the application, reviewing applications, and selecting final participants.
- Oversees the online communication (including Whatsapp and Facebook groups) for Generation Change Fellows, and ensures participants are properly connected.
Performs other duties, including training, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- M.A. required
- At least four years of relevant experience in international relations or political science is preferred.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Experience with social media and network coordination and development.
- Experience with fundraising.
- Proven training skills.
- Strong competencies in online education.
- Competence in program administration and financial management.
- Excellent research and writing ability; strong organizational skills; and ability to work independently and yet collegially.
- Excellent computer skills especially in word processing and internet navigation.
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience and with USIP pay scale.
