JOB BRIEF

The Program Assistant (PA) will support the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) programmatic and analytical activities in Pakistan. S/he will be a member of USIP’s Asia Center team and will be integral to furthering the goals of USIP’s Pakistan program. This position reports to the Program Manager (PM) based in Islamabad (IBO) and will work closely with other members of the Pakistan program and Asia Center’s team in Washington, DC as required.

This is a Fixed-Time Term Personal Services Contractor position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Monitoring & Research Support

  • Assist IBO PM in preparation of contracts for new projects.
  • Communicating with partners regarding compliance to USIP grants and contractual policies and procedures including but not limited to monitoring of budgets, deliverables and key program activities.
  • Support the IBO M&E portfolio with regular travel to the field to monitor the progress of USIP grantees in Pakistan to help improve program implementation based on lessons from the field.
  • Consolidate and maintain an updated database of results that emerge from USIP projects.
  • Develop documentation on program results, successes and lessons learned from interventions for internal use.
  • Provide research support to the senior leadership at USIP Asia Center.

Program Outreach

  • Lead outreach efforts to identify and develop a pipeline of activities, social entrepreneurs and student groups eligible for Peace Innovation Fund funding.
  • Conduct outreach events and seminars to inform groups about USIP’s work in Pakistan and potential funding opportunities.

Communication and Coordination

  • Assist PM in organizing roundtables to showcase findings from USIP programs and research.
  • Assist in planning and supporting travel of Washington based staff in the region, as well as making appointments and attending meetings.
  • Preparation of and distribution of timely monthly reports for HQ.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must be Pakistani national.
  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations or related field required.
  • One year of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including cross cultural skills.
  • Competence in program administration and financial management.
  • Strong skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel is required. Strong computer skills in database usage is preferred.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Experience organizing conferences, meetings, and events preferred.
  • Ability to travel within Pakistan.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
